Abbes Saladi (1929-2004)

 

Born in 1950 in Marrakech, Abbes Saladi grew up in Casablanca after the loss of his father. He began studying philosophy in Rabat, but interrupted his studies in 1977 for mental health reasons.

 

Hospitalized, he found refuge in painting, encouraged by a doctor. Back in Marrakech, he sold his works in Jamaâ el Fna square. His tormented art revisits Paradise by mixing nudity, jnoun and vegetation.

Despite a brief career, he left his mark on Moroccan art and intrigued psychoanalysts and art lovers alike. He died in 2004 in Marrakech.
