Born in 1945 in Tétouan, Fatima Hassan El Farrouj discovered painting instinctively, without any academic training.
Coming from a modest background, she drew on the female traditions of northern Morocco, such as embroidery and henna, to nourish her artistic imagination. Supported by her husband, the artist Hassan El Farrouj, she imposed her style and took part in some forty exhibitions between 1965 and 2004.
One of the pioneers of Moroccan art, she embodied a form of artistic liberation in an environment dominated by men. She passed away in 2010 in Rabat.
