Khadija Jayi was born in 1989 in the holy city of Moulay Idriss Zerhoun. She grew up in a very conservative milieu, ruled by the rooted values of tradition. Young and rebel, she dares deciding that she is the only one to have control over her own destiny and she thus took the path of Art, because that is what she wanted her life to be.
Thanks to the director of her high school in Meknes who helped her out, she could switch pathway from Literature to Visual Arts course, before joining the Ecole Supérieure des Beaux-Arts of Tetouan where she was graduated in 2018.
In 2022 she hosted her first exhibition in Dubai.
Through her research and trials, the young artist seeks the answer to all the questions that play on her mind since her first step on the difficult path to Art she willingly chose to take. Drawing inspiration from the women secular craft practices she inherited and the harsh realities she had to face, Khadija wants the viewers of her artwork to ponder over the possible bridges between tradition and modern times.
Khadija Jayi made hers the language of fire, its light, its heat, through a symbolic approach of burnt shapes and strokes where the fire itself is her way to express her suffering.
